Research Technician
Grade: 4, 5 or 6, depending on experience and qualifications
Job description: The Structural & Computational Biology Unit is
looking for a Research Technician. The successful candidate will
participate in research projects in structural biology of
macromolecular complexes and nucleic acids within a group specialised
in Nuclear Magnetic Resonance Spectroscopy. (S)he will use approaches
including standard molecular biology and biochemistry techniques,
bacterial cell culture, protein expression and purification, in vitro
RNA synthesis and purification. The post holder will also be involved
in equipping and setting up a new laboratory, and in the coordination
of daily lab duties. The Research Technician will enjoy providing
assistance and training to other group members, and will be interested
in learning new techniques, as required by the research projects.
Qualifications and experience: In addition to a university or
technical school degree in a relevant field, the ideal candidate will
have a solid background in biochemistry and molecular biology.
Experience in purifying proteins and nucleic acids and in molecular
biology techniques such as cloning and targeted mutagenesis will be of
advantage. The successful candidate will have experience with lab
duties such as ordering and stock management and will be computer
literate in Word, Excel and web publi****ng. (S)he must have excellent
communication, teamwork and interpersonal skills. Fluency in English
is required.
