Immediate Openings for Field Herpetologists

by Analogue Primitivist <conservationsoutheast@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Jun 2, 2007 at 08:02 AM

Full time field technicians needed immediately to survey all gopher
tortoise populations in the DeSoto and Chickasawhay National Forests
in Mississippi. Work will commence June 9 and will continue for 2-5
months until all suitable sites are thoroughly surveyed. Hiring may
continue as needed beyond the start date.

College students majoring in herpetology, ecology, conservation
biology, environmental science and related fields are especially
welcome, but all applicants will recieve equal conseideration.

The Central Gulf Coastal Plain is eastern North America's number one
hot spot for s****, lizard, turtle, and anuran abundance, diversity,
and endemism. If you've ever dreamed of visiting this herpetofaunal
wonderland, this is your chance to do so... and get paid for doing it!

This is an excellent op****tunity for field experience and a great
resume builder for students and aspiring professional herpetologists.
You will be working with nationally recognized leaders in the
amphibian and reptile conservation community, which will be a nice
addition to your list of references.

Here are the basics:
-Full time: $10/hour, 8-10 hrs/day (part-time schedules can also be
accommodated).
-Requires physical exertion in extreme conditions.
-Must be experienced with GPS, compass and southeastern coastal plain
flora and fauna

Because these gopher tortoise populations occur in the federally
protected ****tion of the species' range, this survey is mandated by
the US Fish and Wildlife Service and is being funded by the US Forest
Service.
