 Florida Red Tide Update, 03/11
Date:	Fri, 11 Mar 2005 15:00:10 -0500

The Florida red tide bloom off the coast of southwest Florida is still
present alongshore from southern Pinellas County to Lee County. Most
water samples contained low to medium concentrations of Karenia brevis,
the Florida red tide organism; high concentrations were re****ted at the
beginning of the week in Sarasota Bay and just offshore of Venice. As
of this morning, 21 dead manatees were recovered between Manatee and
Lee counties. Cause of death is suspected to be red tide related but
cannot be confirmed until analyses are completed. Respiratory
irritation and dead fish were again re****ted this week (Venice,
Englewood, Gasparilla Island, Captiva Island). Winds are expected to be
from the west, northwest, and southwest through the weekend. Red tide
effects are most noticeable at the beaches when winds are westerly.
Visit Red Tide Current Status for Southwest Florida or Red Tide Current
Status Statewide Information for more details.
