Deformed Wings

by markbeeken@[EMAIL PROTECTED] Oct 3, 2007 at 04:46 AM

Hello, can anyone give me some advice please?

It is 3rd Oct and I have just checked my bees after being away for a
month. I did not put any varroa control strips on before I went away
as I still had full supers on.

It looks like the bees have a heavy infestation of varroa, the signs
being: a number of bees have deformed wings; a drop in the number of
bees; dead bees in the cells.

The colony still seems strong and are bringing in lots of pollen.
There is not much brood, and although I did see some eggs, there were
not a awful lot. I will of course put on some Apistan strips asap.

Is it too late? Will I lose my colony? Is there anything I can do to
rectify the situation?

Mark
