hi,

for my own dogs i dont want them to dig in the yard so if he digs
and digs after i have already praised him (5 to 20 seconds) ill make
a distraction and praise him again.

if he still digs ill make another distraction coming from another
direction so that it still gets his attention and praise him again,
and so on.

sometimes , i have found with my dogs and others i have handled,
adjusting my possition or giving a calming signal works as a very
nice distraction.

i find it pretty easy to "erase" most "problem" behaviors once i get
my dogs minds off whatever it is i dont want them to think about
with distraction and praise and back on me.

but thats me and my dogs,

Yeah. Of curse, deterrents DON'T WORK, they only CHALLENGE
the dog to TRY HARDER to do the undesirable behavior:

hi ,

just wanted to clarify, my dog is digging out of nervous energy, so by
praising him when he digs i am relaxing him by telling him hes good
everything is ok and im refocusing his attention on me, and that's what
they really want , time and positive attention from their people! so he
gets happy and leaves behind the digging which in his mind was going
to get him some relief from his poodle energy:-)

Of curse. IT NEVER WORKS.

You MIGHT wanna use TRAININ, janet.

Subject: Re: Jerry's Dog Training Manual

I began with the training exercises only, and didn't worry
about the digging first off. I was more concerned with
the indoor behavior of my dogs, and having them
calm when I asked them to be.

So, with all of that in mind, I've been addressing the digging
over the last few days or so. With each dog, I have caught
them digging once, and addressed it through sound distraction
and praise. After a few instances of sound distraction/praise,
each dog stopped digging at that time.

Following this, there was no digging in my yard for about three
days. Yesterday I noticed they had dug a little in a couple of their
favorite holes. Following Jerry's advice, I addressed these using dropped

penny cans.

So there has been improvement in their digging.

I'll keep you updated if you are interested.

regards,
Lisa

Subject: God Bless The Puppy Wizard

Dear Mr. Puppy Wizard,

I have, of late, come to recognize your genius
and now must applaud your attempts to save
animals from painful training procedures.

You are indeed a hero, a man of exceptional talent,
who tirelessly devotes his days to crafting posts to
alert the world to animal abuse.

We are lucky to have you, and more people should
come to their senses and sup****t your valuable
work.

Have you thought of establi****ng a nonprofit
charity to fund your im****tant work?

Have you thought about holding a press conference
so others can learn of your highly worthwhile
and significant work?

In closing, my only suggestion is that you
try to keep your messages short for most
readers may refuse to read a long message
even if it is from the wise, heroic Puppy Wizard.

I wish you well in your endeavors.
