I'm thinking more of the same of this for the USA:

I highly recommend this to anyone who can manage it.
I've got about a dozen books on home preserving spanning from
the 50's to now so email if you need some tips!

ie: I discovered that the old way of blanching spinach actually
destroys the vitamin value so instead it's recommended putting
the washed spinach into a plastic bag, microwaving for one
minute at a min. of 700W, then freezing.

I don't think it will be like the 60's either. People aren't that
radical anymore, they're more complacent these days.

I may be a bit overly sensitive about it though, as one
of the things I still struggle with is not that society broke down after
Katrina, but rather how incredibly quickly it happened.

I'd go further than that. I'd like to see it taught as
a subject matter in public education. Some it used to
come under the heading of "Shop" and "Home Ec." but
the nearest thing to that I've seen these days is "Life
Skills" and that is usually only taught to higher functioning
autistic cl***** and other Continuing Education cl*****.

One of the things I've been doing is teaching my grand-daughter
as much as she's able to absorb at 4. For example, this weekend
I showed her how to hang clothes on a line outside which is something
she's never seen before. She had a few questions and I was able to
give her a bit of new information. Who knows how much of it took but
she's pretty much a Nana-Wannabe and copies, stores and re-plays
just about everything I say or do.
