My Shamrock has dental cleanings more often than any other cat I've
had, and he has mixed reactions to even isoflurane. It seems that
no matter what the key is to make sure they are kept calm for many
hours after treatment. If that means staying in a cage, that is
much better than having to babysit them while they are coming out
of it.
That said, I had a conversation with my vet and one of her techs
about anesthesia and I wish I could remember the name of it, but
the tech was able to assist with an op and they used something
else. My vet commented that she can't stock whatever they were
talking about because of the short shelf-life and customers would
have to pay for the whole vial rather than just what was needed
because the rest would go to waste. I guess just huge vet clinics
can afford to stock it? Sorry, I wish I remembered what they were
discussing. Best wishes and purrs for your cat to have a safe
dental.
