> Stan Brown,
Hello Stan - delighted to see that you're still in operational condition.
I'd love to be able to comply with your request, I really would. I never
really like changing my details (partly due to vanity, and partly due to
idleness) but this tiresome fetish that some people have for 'killfiles'
(ugh!) means that I have to alter my address slightly if Usenet is to
obtain
maximum benefit from my input.
I'm doing it, in fact, for others - not for myself, that's because I was
brought up to think of others and their needs.
Since we're chatting, I just like to say how disheartened I am by the
decline in Usenet that has taken place in my absence!
It seems that every newsgroup is a mere shadow of its former self - this
group appears to have slowed almost to the point of becoming stationary -
such a dispirited little trickle of posts, it's like watching someone
sleepwalking in slow motion!
And it's not confined to this group either. AGR is, of course, dead to
royal topics (as I prophesied long ago) but even that group is virtually
deserted! - only the odd cross post here and there to betray any sign of
life whatsoever.
The cat people have all been neutered! - where once the proud and spiteful
disciples of Bast guarded their urine soaked territory with malevolent
cunning, now only a gaggle of impotent imbeciles chirrup sentimental pap
to
each other! When accosted, they no longer unsheath terrifying claws and
spit venom - now they merely retreat into a confused little huddle and
hope
the nasty Troll decides to go away!
It's shameful! - really shameful.
I'm glad I knew Usenet when it was vibrant and exciting. When battles
raged
and insults flew, and one never knew whether one would be TOSS'd by one's
ISP at any moment.
It's a tragedy when no-one cares enough to be offended - and, when, even
if
they are, they lack the Gonads to do anything about it!
Shame, shame, and shame again on them for letting Usenet, perhaps the
most
valuable arena for free speech, ideas and opinions that has ever existed,
to fade silently away!!
