Yea! Lucky has gone to his new home!
I had put up notices over the weekend of 'cat for adoption', (pretty
much everywhere, even at work) figuring the chances were slim to none
that I would get a response.
I was wrong. On Monday I got a call at work. Someone had seen the
notice, with the picture of Lucky, and she wanted to see him.
He was supposed to go to the vet that day, but the arrangements fell
through. Somebody in the rescue organization got all upset over the fact
*I* wasn't going to be fostering Lucky. Even though I had it all set up
for him to be fostered by a former co-worker. Apparently, The 'rules'
didn't allow for the way I had made arrangements.
I think is was more like one person in the rescue group got mad at the
one who had been working with me. They didn't consult *her*....because
she was out of town! Arghhhh...!
Anyway, the person who called me is somebody I knew, many years ago(!)
She remembers seeing pictures of my RB Lucky, and Blizzard. She worked
in the same department I did, (In the administrative offices) before I
was laid off in 1994. I haven't seen her since. She remembers getting to
see Blizzard, before he was full grown. I took her with me to a party,
when she was still pretty young. I had completely forgotten about that.
That was an awfully long time ago!
She lost her elderly cat to CRF, a few months ago.
She read the story I had posted (with the name Buffy...) and decided it
was time to adopt another cat! She loved the picture I had included with
my bulletin board notice, and 'Buffy's' sad story.
So I took Buffy over to her house on Tuesday, late in the evening.
She's a singe mom, and owns her own house. She has all the cat 'things'
she needs. Her house has a 'sun room', that is a room with lots of big
windows. There is a ledge all around below the windows, and she has a
bird feeder in her back yard. And an oak tree with squirrels that live
in it. Kitty TV!
She is going to keep the name Buffy; (or maybe Buffy Boy...) she likes
it better than 'Lucky'.
Buffy made himself right at home. He's very mellow cat: just walked
around the room a bit, and jumped up and took a nap in her lap!
She is going to take him to her vet as soon as she can; probably Wed. or
Thur. She doesn't seem at all concerned about the vet cost. She's
probably used to big vet bills, from when her cat was ill.
So Buffy will have the run of a whole house, all to himself . It sure
beats living in a garage, or in a walk in closet!
Only one of her children still lives at home. She will be a Senior in
High School next year. And Buffy seems to adore her. Buffy seems to
adore *everybody*! I think his time on the streets made him crave human
contact. (Humans with cat food, of course!) He walked right up to her
and rolled on his back, begging for a tummy rub.
So I couldn't have hoped for things to work out any better! No waiting a
long time for somebody to adopt him! ( I had pictured him still living
in the walk in closet, next winter....).
I love happy endings.

Every day is a treasure with Kenzie; I try to treat them that way. There
will only be so many, and then there will never, ever, be any more.
