I noticed one of the horses idle at pasture all year
was getting a rather uneven hoof.
The weather has been dry for weeks, and when I took
a keyhole saw along for a trial the result was probably
what I should have expected: - the fresh sharp blade
essentially skipped over the iron hard horn.
Darn! The nips make very heavy going of it too.
I have an MG set to power an angle grinder/cutter, a planer,
and a belt sander, but these are all rather noisier than
I would like. It's true that the planer makes a
faint jet engine startup whine that I find not unpleasant.
But I am not a horse :-)
Still, I haven't tried running any of these near the horses,
and I hoped that a little sawing would remove a hoof
chip, but no.
Ah well: on to plan B: soak the hoof for a while first....
then nip.
