He is dear to my heart. His wound is nearly healed and now he is
being weaned back onto grass so he can come home :-) The working
student who turned him out on grass told me that she left his halter
on so she could catch him easily -- since horses are often reluctant
to be caught and brought in when they finally get to munch some good
grass. Then she related, "But, he's Prince so I should have realized
that it wouldn't be an issue. Sure enough when I went out to get him
he was at the back end of the field munching away until he saw me, and
then he came running up completely happy to see me. I've never met a
horse who liked to be with people more than he does or tried harder to
do whatever humans ask of him." This little runt of a colt is a
treasure to me. :-)

Meanwhile I was at the barn to hold my horses for the farrier and
happened to arrive as one of the barn workers was bringing Legend in
from turn-out because the bugs were getting bad (darn green heads and
horseflies have now appeared). I held the slack lead rope while the
farrier trimmed Legend's feet in the aisle of the main barn. There
was a mare in one of the stalls we were in front of and another mare
in the aisle 10 feet away being tacked up. We walked quietly past
that mare in the aisle when the trim was done. Legend never "talked
to" or looked directly at either of the mares though he was aware of
their presence-as a stallion he is always very aware of horses in the
vicinity. He was relaxed and mannerly the entire time. He came back
from breeding duties at the repro facility just a week ago.

I have these bloodlines and am breeding them because of the
combination of extraordinary temperament that is coupled with the
athletic ability. I can find the athleticism in many places, but this
kind of temperament is at the heart of why I have these particular
horses.
