Reluctance to move out freely is the main thing you notice right up
front.  It should be relatively easy to tell if it's one foot or two
or more.  I have a lot of abscesses here, and it is always obvious
when there is an abscess hurting only one foot.  If there is a problem
with free movement that appears to be from more than one foot,
laminitis should be suspected, even when there have not been any
obvious changes to management.

I think Patrick might be the exception - all the horses I've ever seen
with laminitis were still very fond of eating.

Sure, it can cure itself - if it's some sort of environmental insult
(diet, usually) and it's not a super bad case, it can go away on its
own.
