This isn't true across the board.  I can give several examples but the

who has
very strong feet that had wall 2 inches higher than sole when I got
her.  Since her walls were so strong, she was not experiencing any
separation/tearing from them being that high (yet) (whereas weaker
walled horses who had flaring/separation would be in pain from that
configuration and would be much relieved by having it fixed) but they
obviously were long overdue for a trim.  She was VERY sore after the
trim because her sole was now close to the ground, touching it in some
cases of high load, and it was not used to that since it had been so
far off the ground for so long prior.  She was fine after 5 days.

She was not as sore as the horse being discussed in this thread,
though, and Sandy, I have to agree it sounds like laminitis.  Good
