I have dealt with a laminitis prone horse for the past 7 years.  Him
being flat out and not wanting to get up would lead me to definitely
think he has laminitis or has even foundered.  And indeed a horse with
laminitis can be really uncomfortable after shoeing.  Last year we
went through the same thing.  Ouchy horse, put the shoes on and the
next day our mare could hardly move.  Had to have the vet out and we
pulled the shoes.  You need X-rays to see if your horse has rotated.
Our mare did in one front foot only.  The next 3 months were an ordeal
of getting her through the founder.  Good luck and it would be best to
keep your horse off all grass until you know what is going on.
