Yesterday as I was getting ready to go out to lunch I heard blue jays
once again mobbing something in my yard. I went out to see if they
were after my little s**** again and they were not. this time there
were many more of them and they were high in a tree and sort of
bethind the tree so that I couldn't get a look at what was causing the
ruckus. In addition to the jays the chickadees, wrens and titmouses
were adding their voices to the noise. I noticed that the cardinals
and house finches were nowhere to be seen. Just as I was deciding it
had to be a hawk or an owl something dark and large flew out of the
tree right over me. when I turned to see it, it was no where to be
seen. I never saw where it went. Even the jays seemed confused.
They milled around a bit then flew off across the street but not
making noise or in any way obviously chasing anything. I think the
bird must have very quickly dived into thick bushes or heavy foliage
and hunkered down. I waited around for as long as I could but finally
had to leave. When I left the yard birds had not yet come out of
hiding.
Very fast disappearing bird!
