Blue Tits died in nest - again.

by Colin Jones <seajays@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Jun 16, 2008 at 01:16 AM

I wonder if anyone can offer some advice on what might be causing the
deaths of our Blue Tit family (we're in Scotland). Our house has a
nest box on the wall, and for the last two years the Blue Tits have
nested in there, laid eggs, the eggs have hatched and they start to
feed the chicks, however both years now they have subsequently
deserted the nest and the chicks have died.

When I noticed they had stopped visiting again this year I looked
inside, and noticed that all the chicks had died out over the edge of
the nest in the box (if it would help I can take a photograph?).

I'm wondering if the position of the nest box is wrong, or whether the
internal size of the box may be too big and the chicks are falling
out?

Any advice appreciated.
Cheers,
Colin.
