On Deck

by Laurence Sheldon <lfsheldon@[EMAIL PROTECTED] > Jun 13, 2008 at 10:29 AM

Usual GOC on the platform (one squirrel and several LBB's get in for a
bit no and then).

(Yesterday a squirrel came to the window and peered in at the supplies,
then worked on getting to the hanging feeders, finally gave up and left,
so I went out and restocked (the platform had been pretty muck cleared
by hight winds and torrential rain the day before).

Usual crowd on the hanging feeders.

No Hummingbirds, Orioles or butterflies on the reclaimed syrup feeders
although there is one small butterfly (or moth, maybe) zooming around
the area at high speed.

Highlight of the day (week?) was a young fox sitting at a window
grooming itself.

Dog raised a hue and cry, fox (kit? is that the word for a young fox?)
ran down the stairs. Came back (several times) and laid down, then got
up nervously, laid down, groomed, rinse, lather, repeat. Finally went
down the stairs and took off toward the woods on the property line,
almost as if responding to a call.

Dunno what was going on, we see a fox in the lower part of the yard on
occasion, but never before on the deck. (Nothing there attractive to a
fox except the grease under the smoker.)
