Hi All,
I have been told by my vet that my budgie has Scaly Face.I have had
budgies for many years, and have seen and heard about Scaly Face on
budgies, but this time, the vet says that the Scaly Face mites actually
*burrow into the lungs* ???? I am just so *surprised* to hear this
!!!!* Does anyone have any info about this or knowledge or experience
???? I know it isnt a complicated thing for a budgie to have.
I have been given IvERmectin-one drop(behind the neck) every 3
weeks(milky fluid-Ivermectin in Propylene Glycol 0.08mg/ml).
But i have actually been given this before(clear fluid-IvOmectin RV
10LT PER ML QTY) for bird mites, the type that bite the bird and
humans, and the dosage then was 1 drop once a week(behind the neck).
I havent had time to ask the vet about that, but i would like some other
opinions on it as it can be very enlightening. And it also seems odd
that(not that i am saying it wont work)that the medication is absorbed
into the skin by puttin a drop at the back of the neck.
And the one time i had a bird with EXTREME Scaly Face(i found the
bird)over its beak and legs and around its eyes.I treated it with
Dettol(should i do this again with this bird???),once, and it was
gone, and the bird was fine after that,i had it for years, and it was
never ill from it.
But the vet this time is telling me that Scaly Face can kill a bird
with an extreme case,as the mites burrow into places like the
lungs(?).....i am wondering about this.......IS IT REAlly THAT DEADLY a
disease ???!!! Does anyone have any info about Ivomectin/Ivermectin
???? Are they the same medication ???
Anyone with knowledge about this ????
