How heartbreaking. My condolences to your family. I'm not a vet, nor have I
any medical training, but what you're describing sounds like a stroke to
me.
If that's what it was, most likely there was nothing you or anyone else
could have done for her medically. You did the very best things, though,
by
making sure she was loved and cared for during her final hours.
And yes, George most certainly is mourning. In my own experience, animals
have all the feelings humans do. However, they recover much more quickly.
If
you prefer having a pair of budgies to a singleton, by all means get
another
female as soon as you can. While you never will forget or stop regretting
Henri's loss, a new bird will quicken the recovery time for you and
George.
In the meantime, providing him with as much companion****p as you can will
be
healing for everyone. My best to you all.
