Bull****.  It can be bad, but it is not inherently bad.

For as long as I've had birds I've continued to use teflon pots & pans, 
as well as other teflon coated cooking devices despite all the hysteria 
that uninformed, poorly informed and misinformed people cause.  Under 
normal use there is no reason to be concerned at all.
