I've tried alot of things to remove the odor from my bedroom of my 5 male
mice that live together in an aquarium with a mesh lid. Here is my journey
for anyone else who may be interested in odor eliminators externally
placed
outside of the cage.
Background on the room: it is hawaii so windows are open 24/7, a fan
blowing
in the room. The room itself is smaller, about 225sq ft.
Product 1
WHAT: Odor Genie( http://www.doityourself.com/invt/2144210
)
WHERE: from ace hardware
COST: About $5 each.
OPINION: The first odor remover I tried and it worked extremely well, but
after 10-14 days they became very shrivvled and needed to be replaced.
AFAIK
this product has been discontinued.
Product 2
WHAT: Odor Absorbing Gel made by Clean Air.
WHERE: WalMart by the air freshners
COST: About $4.25.
OPINION: Works well, but I find I need atleast two, one on top of the cage
and one in front of the fan to disperse the gel throughout the room. They
are effective, but like Product 1, they do not last too long, after 2
weeks
they are almost gone.
Product 3:
WHAT: TrueAir Odor Eliminator (
http://www.trueair.com/odor_eliminators/04530f.html
)
WHERE: WalMart
COST: About $19, then $10 for an extra 4 filters
OPINION: Thought I was smart and finally bought the real deal to help
alleviate my problem.Wrong! It doesn't remove odors for crap. Total junk.
Product 4:
WHAT: The Gonzo Odor Eliminator ( http://www.gonzocorp.com/pet.htm
the
very
last one on the page)
WHERE: WalMart in the cat/dog isle with flea medicine and shampoos.
COST: $4.57
OPINION: I just found this new item today and am just starting to use it.
It
makes similar claims to the above gels to remove odors from the air (odors
being negatively charged, the gels and this are positive), but this some
sort of "volcanic minerals". The real catch, aside from being rock
material
instead of gel, is that the package claims this lasts FOREVER. When the
product loses effectiveness (after 8-10 months), it claims you put it in
the
sun for the day and it recharges it to the full effectiveness.
I have great hopes for this latest item, especially if it lasts as long as
it does, and can be brought to full effectiveness by being placed in the
sun. This would mean a HUGE saving from spending $4 or so on multiple gel
items very often. I will re****t back later if anyone would like an update
on
how well #4 removes the odors.
Aloha
