Rats are natural predators of mice and will usually kill them on sight.
This behavior is instinctive; raising them together probably would not
overcome it.
We have just been having a discussion about keeping males alone so you
might want to read the other recent threads. My belief is that males
can live happily alone if they are given a lot of attention and stuff to
play with. Trying to introduce them to other males is usually a
disaster and I have never heard of them being kept with other species
successfully (except for deer mice, but they are not usually sold as
pets).
