If you are in america, in some states apaprently, as I heard on a 911
call, it is legal to kill someone who is breaking an entry into your
neighbors house. Perhaps such or similar laws apoply to your state. In
which case a shotgun would help. You can always claim the digs
attacked you when you tried to scare them away. 

If someone doens't have their dogs under control, they are free target
practise. **** 'em. defend your property and livestock. Should be a
good old fa****oned western tradition.
