On the 23rd of May, Mika was diagnosed with an URI. Back then the meds
worked really well, but about a week ago, she suddenly fel victim to gas
in her belly (bloat). The vet was quickly to respond, and the very next
day, Mika behaved like there wasn't a care in the world.
So, last Friday, it was decided to ease back on the meds a little. Noboy
could have foreseen this would be a mistake. Yesterday when we got up,
Mika was sitting there, puffing for breath, and all signs pointed to
bloat again. Immediately we gave her the meds again, and she seemed to
recover a little bit. But she would not eat or drink. We started feeding
her manually and of course giving her water, which she took voluntarily.
But this morning there was still no improvement, she still wuold not
eat, or drink. On top of that, the she started refusing liquid food we
gave her.
Right now, my wife is on her way to the vet. And I am preparing for the
inevitable (and horrible) phonecall that Mika has been euthanised. Of
course this will be the last option, but giving the state she was in
when she left this morning, I fear it is the only option left.
I feel terrible about the fact that I can't be there to sup****t her
during the moment. I could not leave my work today due to some urgent
matters. So my wife Nicole will have to be there for her, and I am only
there in spirit.
........ While typing this, I received word from my wife. Poor little
Mika didn't even make it to the vet. She passed away JUST OUTSIDE the
vet's place :o(
Don't think I'll be of much use today here at the office....
Farewell, my dear Mika. Please wait for me over the rainbowbridge.
