sang the following hymns:
>Yesterday, at 10 pm, we had to let Droopy go. Just 3 weeks ago she lost
>her mate, and although we got her a new friend right away, I guessed she
>missed Doodle too much.
>Last Saturday, she was diagnosed with an URI. She received proper
>medication, but the medicines didn't take this time. She had this
>problem once before, about 1,5 years ago. Back then she recovered
>without any effort at all. This time, I think her immunity wasn't that
>strong anymore. On Monday evening we had to start feeding her through a
>syringe. She took the food happily. But yesterday evening, she stopped
>swallowing her food. That was the sign of trouble.
>The vet told us that there was nothing more we could do. He predicted
>that our sweetheart would suffocate within a day or so. We simply could
>not let that happen... so we took the hardest decision we have ever
>faced. She went fast and calm, in my wifes' hands.
>
>Just this morning, we had a ceremony in our back yard, where she lies
>with her friends. It's just a little too much for me, loosing 3 of them
>in only 3 months. Droopy had just turned 7 years old, and so most people
>respond with "that's a nice age for a guinea pig, it was her time". But
>that is the last thing I want to hear. 5 days ago she was fine and we
>were having so much fun. Now there's that emptiness. The fact that she
>was 7 years old just makes it harder to say 'goodbye'.
>
>Anyway, although I'm a wreck right now, it's time to find Dribbel a new
>friend - after just 3 weeks...
>
>Michel.
Agreed. Monster was 6 and he died almost a year ago. And I still mourn
him. The longer they live, the longer the ache. That is why I decided
not to have any more guinea pigs. I do not read here regularly, too
many death stories.
Beer was younger but when Monster was in cavia-heaven he felt lonely
too. But I forced myself to not get him a friend. And so Beer died a
few months later. He didn't suffer like Monster did. Monster took a
day and he didn't want to let go. I went to 2 vets that day and he was
gasping for breath, he was just worn out and old. His heart was strong
and I believe he allowed me to say goodbye. At the 2nd vet she wanted
to give hi the syringe but I took him home. And I staued with him
until the last breath. And since Monster was a cavia, he wasn't aware
of that he could have avoided suffering if I had allowed him to be
killed by the vet. Guinea pigs accept their fate.
And Monster was happy to be with me till the last moment. I cried over
him and he saw that and he knew.
If I will be 90 years old I will still cry over him.
The cermony will help.
Good luck in th days ahead. Droopy will likley meet the older really
old piggies, I think they ahve a special old age club up there.
