Sayuri,
Guinea Pigs, unlike rabbits, cannot be litter trained. They just do their
business on the spot that they are. At least, that's what I have heard
from
many people. On the other hand: most piggies will do their utmost not to
wet
you, when you are holding them on your lap. When they are on your lap, and
they feel they need to go, they usually will become restless, or softly
nibble your fingers. Just to point out to you: "I need to go. Please put
me
back in my cage and let me do my business". You better listen to that or
you'll end up with wet clothes. When they are comfortable with you, they
will do their best not to pee on you, but when they really need to go,
they
have to go.
About ten years ago, I had a female piggie that, when having floortime,
always rushed back into her cage if and when she needed to pee. And she
even
tried to teach the other 2 females to copy her behaviour. Unfortunately
they
never listened to her.
And right now, I have a 2 months old male, Bear, that has 1 corner in his
cage where he pees and poos. Apparently he hates dirty bedding, so he
simply
uses 1 corner in his cage to do his business. This corner is cleaned out
every other day. Apart from that one corner, his cage is very clean. I
have
never thought him to use just 1 corner, he had done this from the very
beginning.
Unfortunately all my female piggies are very messy. And I have asked them
to
please, please be a more like Bear, and use 1 or 2 corners to do their
business in, but still they simply pee and poo everywhere in their cage.
So I'm sorry, but piggies cannot be 'potty trained'.
