A few years ago the house backing onto mine was home to a white pig
and black pig. Now the white pig would occasionally escape through a
hole in the hedge into my garden. Nextdoor's cat would appear and the
white pig would rapidly retreat into the hole in the hedge. The cat
would follow into the green tunnel. After a few seconds the cat would
bolt out of the hole and across my garden followed by the black guinea
pig. This happened on several days.
What defences do cavies have against cats? I assume in the wild they
would need to cope with pumas. (I always assumed by hiding).
