Somewhat OT: Ferret for adoption?

by Twp1976@[EMAIL PROTECTED] Nov 27, 2007 at 12:34 PM

Hello all,

I was in this group a few years back when I had two GP's who have
since passed, unfortunately. Anyway, to make a long story short, we
have been "babysitting" an albino ferret for about 6 months. The
original plan was that our friend would take it back, but he has since
been transferred to a job where he is constantly travelling, so it
wouldn't be fair - plus it's not really HIS ferret to begin with, it's
a very long story.

Our problem is we have 3 cats, and the room we were keeping the ferret
in will be soon be occupied. I love pretty much any animal, though
I'm not a HUGE ferret person, but we may be moving, & just for a
number of reasons, we need to find him a home.

His name is Blanco. He's friendly, though when you're used to GP's,
he's QUITE rowdy by comparison. I'm in NJ, and was wondering if
anybody knew of any resources to get a ferret to a good home? I've
tried Petco and Petsmart who were no help. I called the Humane
Society who told me to call Animal Control, but I thought that's only
for a wild animal? I have misgivings about what might happen to him
if we got Animal Control involved.

Pros: -He has the mark behind his ear, so he's been neutered
-Friendly, full of energy. I don't know if ferrets are
known to
bite, but my novice hands have never been bitten, nor
           has he attempted
-We have a cage and hammock

Cons: -Since he wasn't ours, we don't have any 'papers' on him.
We've guessed him to be about 3-4 years old
          - Albino is not everybody's taste
          - Hasn't be de-scented, though his scent is not strong,
to me at least. I actually LIKE the scent.

I've placed an ad in the paper with no luck. Posted in the ferret
chatgroup which seems all but dead. Yet, I see ferrets for sale in
the pet store for over $100, and I can't GIVE one away.

Any advice at all would be greatly appreciated. I'd keep him if I
could, but I can't. And I'm sure there is a bigger ferret lover than
I who'd love a FREE one. Since this group is fairly active, I figured
I'd give it a shot!!!

Thanks for reading
Tom
