Re: Where are the messages concerning VIZSLAS

OK here is a Vizsla question for you.

My son has one. It is a wonderful loving dog, great with young
children as long as they don't get run over, and very very smart.
Probably the best dog I have ever met. Only problem is that it likes
people so much, that it wants to jump up and give every new visitor to
the house a welcoming lick. He is a big Vizsla also, 65 lb. This
poses a problem for many guests. I don't have a problem as I can get
him to sit, then bend over and let him give me a lick on the ear and
give him a bit of attention and he soon calms down. He is just too
thrilled to meet new people - coming to see him. :) Trouble is that
it bothers some visiters so they have to move him to another room
behind closed doors for a while.

I have had several customers who have Vizslas and they seem to have
the same problem. Is this normal for the breed? Can they be taught
to remain calmer when visiters arrive and not jump up? And, if so,
what is the technique.

Doug
