cat question i need answered

i have 2 cats,both females.  one is 14 months and the other is 11 months.
they both go into heat every week or 2 if were lucky and they howl as
though
theyre being murdered. plus i think the younges may have an eye infection
because she barely opens her eye but i havnt seen any puss or
discoloration
in it. when i tried puttin a damp cloth on it she was fine and could open
it
but now shes doing the squinting thing only when shes howling at the
window.
plus she runs away from us as though shes afraid were going to kill her.
we
took her from a home where the ower used to kick her across the room and
shes
been with us for the last 8  months and thais is the only time shes like
this.
i worried about her eye but i dont have the money to pay for a vet visit
just to find out theres nothing wrong.(im expecting a baby in about 2
weeks
and im on social assistance so i really have no money to spare). if anyone
can answer these questions it would be greatly appreciated.
