You are right, several municipalities have added clorine to their water.
Pretty much the theory is bleach nulifies everything. And for the most
part, it works. To put it simply, what I wrote was, if you believe the
clorine in your water is killing your fish, go buy a bottle of cheap
declorinator from your local pet shop and add it to your water before you
add it to your tank.

I live in a city that uses clorine in their water, sometimes a very high
amount. I do add the declorinator in. The water where I live (Las
Vegas, Nevada - USA) is pretty bad, smelly and is highly alkaline. The
tropical fish I've had over the years thrive in it.

Mine is around 8.0 :)

The water could be unpolluted, but not fit to drink, or not taste right.
There is a city in Texas where the water is naturally undrinkable. This
is due to the high concentration of oil in the area.

Actually I've heard that New York water is some of the best tasting water
in the world. All of those old copper pipes!

Usually from the same place all the other water comes from.:) Distilled
water is ph balanced and pure, though. It was a suggestion. 100% of the
water I drink is bottled, or purified in some way. I've been to several
areas where tap water is excellent, but here in the desert isn't one of
them.
