PETA spoke out last year in a case involving defendant Otis Clark Jr.
of Oxford, Ohio, who was convicted of cruelty to animals after his
dog, China, was found in March with a chain so deeply imbedded in her
neck that surgery was required to remove it. Graphic photos provided
to PETA corroborate the severity of China's injuries. Shockingly, the
judge presiding over the case ruled that China had to be returned to
the custody of Clark=97the man who was responsible for her suffering!
The judge only stipulated that Clark should read a dog care book,
license China, not tie her up, and have her checked every 90 days by a
veterinarian. If Clark didn't comply with the judge's orders, he
re****tedly would have to forfeit China and could face up to 180 days
in jail.
