Today was the last day of deer season (muzzleloader). Having all tags
filled, I decided to have lunch with a friend.
She feeds her geese, and with the 24" of snow base that we had last week,
hungry animals flocked to her feeding area while she was still out there.
Deer ignored her, and ate while she stood 15 yards away.
She talked, and shouted, and they paid her no mind.
THEN, she went in, changed coats to hunter orange, and returned with her
corn bucket refilled. The deer fled like scorched monkeys.
I thought deer were supposed to be color blind? Is it the florescence that
disturbed them?
The coyote watching from a distance was leery regardless of what was worn.
When she went in, the deer returned. I asked her to go out again WITHOUT
the orange coat, and the deer ignored her. They seemed to respond only to
the blaze orange coat.
