I don't really understand what happened. Everything was fine just a few
short years ago. My wife and I both had good jobs. We had excellent credit
ratings. We had been living in our house for nearly 5 years. And, we were
expecting the birth of our first son. Then, it seems that a string of
events sent our lives spiraling downward. First, my wife decided to take
some time off after the birth of our first son. I couldn't blame her. She
had been working since she was 15. She put herself through college without
any financial help from her parents. She wanted to stay at home for a while
and spend time with the new baby. Well, that didn't last long. Not long
after she left her job, I got laid off. She was able to find work faster
than I, but now we were a one income family with a new baby whereas we had
been a two income family without a baby. We went through most of our
savings before I landed a job. The new job didn't pay as much as my old
one, but it was income. The week after I got hired, she got laid off. So,
we were still at one income. We then went through the rest of our savings
as well as withdrawing our 401K. And, we had another baby on the way.
Then, things got worse. Both of our fathers contracted lung cancer and
died within 6 months of each other. My wife helped our mothers take care
of them and helped with arrangements after their deaths. Since she was so
tied up with all of that plus the two kids, she didn't have time to find a
job. Many would say she was already working three or four jobs without pay.
Since then, she has not been able to find work eventhough she has been on
several interviews. I do have a better job now, but it's just not enough.
We are struggling to get along. We have no 401K now, no savings, and we've
maxed out our credit cards trying to stay afloat. Our once great credit
rating is now in the crapper. And to top it all of, we got a foreclosure
notice the other day. I can't believe that I have to beg for money from
strangers on the Internet, but that's what I'm doing. There is probably no
way that I could ever pay you back, but whatever you can afford would be
greatly appreciated. Ten dollars here and twenty dollars there does add
up, and if I get enough of a response, it may just be enough to keep us
out of foreclosure. By the way, we have already refinanced, so there's no
equity in the house anymore and those "stop foreclosure" people won't do
anything without equity. So, if you can spare it, please donate. You can

God Bless You,
Jim
